FOUST PROVED TO BE A UTILITY PLAYER
BY GLEN MILLER
Edition:Wednesday, June 16, 2010

NORMAN – Destinee Foust was named to the Oklahoma Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Game as a utility player, and the El Reno graduate proved she was worth the selection.
Foust handled three different jobs in the Large School Game (5A-6A classes) as well as taking the plate twice in the West's 3-1 win over the East.
“I was the utility player and I had a good time doing it,” Foust said after the game.
Foust did not start the game, but used her catching experience to warm up West pitchers in the bullpen. She then took to the field and played first base for two innings, logging three putouts.
She found herself as catcher for Edmond Santa Fe's Sierra Bronkey for the seventh and eighth innings. The battery mates allowed only one hit and no runs.
“I called the pitches and we work well together,” Foust said of the catching duties. “I was happy with the way I played in the field. I'm just happy to be here.”
Foust said if there was a negative to the experience, it was at the plate. She grounded out to short both times at bat, the last being in the seventh inning with runners at first and third.
“I just did not hit the ball well,” Foust said. “I didn't get my hands out. The bat barrel was back and I did not put enough whip on it.”
The West trailed most of the game until Chickasha's Paige Hightower, who edged out Foust for the catching position, hit a two-run single to right field.
The West cemented the victory with a run in the top of the eighth inning on a double by Mustang's Kylee Rounsaville.
