Martin, Dauphin help Team Oklahoma to fifth at Cadet National Duals

El Reno products Cory Dauphin and Hannah Martin helped team Oklahoma to a fifth-place finish at the Cadet Freestyle Dual National Championships in Kansas City, Mo.

Dauphin, a state champion during his freshman year with El Reno, posted a 7-2 mark at the national tournament, while Martin went 5-4. Martin was a state qualifier during her freshman season.

Team Oklahoma defeated Wisconsin 45-31 in the fifth-place match. Pennsylvania Black defeated Missouri 53-22 in the finals.

Dauphin won his match against Brayden Wienke with a 5-1 decision at 140 pounds. Martin fell to Justin Mudlaff 10-2 in the 91-pound weight class.

Another Oklahoma victory in the championship bracket came against Washington 45-27 in the opening round where Dauphin won by technical fall 13-0 over Jared Kilcup. Martin dropped an 8-1 decision to Ruben Navejas.

Missouri, who would finish as the runner-up, handed Oklahoma a 44-29 setback in the second round. Dauphin suffered one of his two losses in the tournament, dropping a 11-7 decision to Brandon Wilbourn at 135 pounds. Cody Brewer had a technical fall 14-0 decision over Martin.

Oklahoma also had a 39-28 victory over Minnesota, which landed the squad a trip to the fifth-place match.

Dauphin had a pin at the 1:46 mark to finish off Jake Begin at 135 pounds, while Martin suffered a 6-4 setback to Hayden Zillmer at 91 pounds.

Martin had a forfeit victory against a member of Pennsylvania Silver in pool play, and Dauphin defeated Dillon Smith with a 12-2 decision.
Against Idaho in pool play, Martin defeated Marcus Banducci with a 6-1 decision, and Dauphin edged Josh Warner with a 6-5 decision.

Martin’s other two victories came against John Belanger (New York) with a 11-4 decision, and Dru Thomas of New Jersey with a 13-12 decision.

Dauphin recorded his first pin against New York’s Steven Dutton at the 1:36 mark. His first setback came against Jesse Shanaman 12-4.
Former El Reno head coach Bobby Miller was on hand in Kansas City working with both Dauphin and Martin.

Dauphin and Martin figure to play big roles for the Indians over the next three years.
