The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes will dedicate a veterans memorial monument Saturday in Concho.
The monument lists more than 800 names of American Indian veterans and took more than a year of planning and design. James Hawk Sr., now dead, recruited friends and other veterans to see through plans and construction.
The dedication service will begin with a continental breakfast from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Cheyenne and Arapaho priests will bless the memorial at 9 a.m., followed by the raising of flags at the memorial flagpole and singing of the tribe’s flag and memorial songs.
