‘Rocket’ rushes in

The last steam train built for the Union Pacific Railroad charges into the old Rock Island Depot to cheers from more than 200 spectators. The No. 844 steam locomotive, which has been renamed “The Oklahoma Centennial Sooner Rocket,” spent Wednesday parked in El Reno as crowds flocked to look it over. County ‘very reluctantly’ OKs new phone system bid

Saying their backs were against the wall, Canadian County commissioners Monday approved a $118,838 bid for a new county phone system despite voicing concerns the price tag was too high.
