EHS closes out summer grid drills

Tom Cobble has never been a coach to back down from live competition, but the veteran skipper opted out of a return visit to Weatherford Monday night for a passing tournament.

Instead, Cobble gathered part of the El Reno High school football team for an intrasquad passing scrimmage that included freshmen players.

Downtown walking toward new sidewalks

Downtown El Reno appears to be moving closer to an improved appearance. On Monday city staff members met with nine contractors for a pre-bid conference to iron out the details and answer questions concerning the downtown sidewalk replacement project.

County jail committee holds first meeting

A committee aimed at finding solutions to the county’s jail headaches had its inaugural meeting last week.

The committee, appointed by County Commissioners Phil Carson, Don Young and Grant Hedrick, was formed after a proposed $24.8 million facility was soundly rejected by voters in May. The group held its first meeting in Yukon to “get ideas, compile information and find a way to sell the right facility to the residents,” committee chairman Jim Crosby said.
