Tippens agrees to new deal

By Rex Hogan/Staff writer

Ranet Tippens will lead the El Reno School District for another year.

The El Reno School Board last week offered Tippens - and Tippens agreed to - a one-year contract for $97,000. That’s the same salary she earned last year.

“They (board members) did ask me about the one-year contract and I said I was fine with it,” Tippens said.

“The truth is, if they were unhappy with me, I wouldn’t want to be here. I have a wonderful board and we’ve accomplished a lot,” she said.

Jail committee tours blueprints

By Traci Chapman/Staff writer

Jail committee members got a detailed “tour” Wednesday of the $24.8 million jail plan rejected by voters May 13, in an attempt to “find a starting place.”

In their second meeting, committee members were joined by Mustang City Manager David Cockrell and Cleveland County Sheriff Don Holyfield. Members said last week their first step was to review the proposed jail plans to determine whether to utilize that plan as presented to voters, look at some type of change to the design or start from scratch.

The decision to take part in the study had been tabled for two months while details were worked out concerning the Canadian County Economic Development Partnership. The Council approved the measure at a special meeting on Thursday.
