City looks at shifting authorities’ functionsBy Daniel Lapham/Staff Writer A push to restructure and streamline city operations has led Mayor Matt White and City Manager Tony Rivera to review whether certain functions now under control of city authorities could be handled by city staff. El Reno authorities operate Parkview Hospital, El Reno Regional Airport and Crimson Creek Golf Club. City officials have begun the streamlining process by renegotiating a lease agreement for the airport with the El Reno Airpark Authority. “The authorities are good information tools, but the city needs to be the ultimate authority,” White said. At the City Council meeting last Tuesday, White explained the plan as a way for everyone “to get on a steady playing field. I think this is the time to streamline what we are doing. Right now we have different attorneys and different people that do books for each authority.” At this point the recreational authority and the airport authority are “the two we are talking about. Parkview Hospital is a different animal,” he said. |
