Unopposed Wedman to join board

El Reno resident Andy Wedman is scheduled to join the El Reno Board of Education in February after current board member Lee Farmer’s term runs out.

El Reno Public Schools Superintendent Ranet Tippens said initially, Farmer and Wedman had both filed for the upcoming election for the Office 3 seat, which serves Ward 2, but due to personal reasons, Farmer decided to withdraw his application.

The school board elections are scheduled for Feb. 5, said Dorothy Riley, Canadian County Election Board secretary. Since Wedman is not being challenged for the five-year term, he will step onto the board at the February meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12.

Tippens said Wedman is an El Reno graduate with a long history of ties to the education system.
“We will greatly miss Mr. Farmer as he has been a great asset to the district,” Tippens said. “We also look forward to welcoming Mr. Wedman to the board.”
