ER basketball boys bury treys

Despite missing every perimeter shot it took during its last outing, El Reno head basketball coach Rodney Haydon knew it was just a matter of time before his sharp-shooting Indians would find their range from the 3-point line.

Unfortunately for Weatherford, that time was sooner than later.

El Reno, ranked 16th in the state in the latest Class 5A coaches’ poll, buried eight 3-pointers to highlight a 64-44 non-conference win over the Eagles.

The victory closed out the first portion of the season for EHS with a 5-2 record.

“After missing all nine shots against Piedmont, we needed that,” Haydon said. “We have got some good shooters and like I said when the outside shots started falling that we were going to be tough to beat. I’m sure glad it came earlier.”

El Reno got off to a quick start as junior Fayzon Richey hit 3-pointers on the Indians first two possessions against Weatherford’s zone defense. The Eagles then closed off the guard with a box-and-one defense as the two squads began trading baskets.
