OKLAHOMA CITY — El Reno couldn’t pick a better time to be playing its best basketball with the postseason fast approaching.

The Indians had their most complete performance of the season Monday night at Western Heights. They routed the Jets 59-41 and won for the third time in their last four games.

El Reno, which improved to 6-13 overall and 3-10 in Suburban Conference play, will wrap up the regular season Friday with a home game against Chickasha, before traveling to Guthrie to take on the Bluejays at 8 p.m. next Friday in a Class 5A regional game.

Head coach Rodney Haydon’s squad got balanced scoring against the Jets as three players finished in double figures.

Sophomore Fayzon Richey led the way with a game-high 17 points. Junior Glenn Wedman followed with 14 points and junior Taylor Wedman added 13.

The Indians also received nine points from junior guard Jared Krittenbrink.

“This is our best performance of the year for four quarters without a doubt,” Haydon said. “This was against a team that has beat us twice so they had a mental edge and probably thought they owned us a little bit.”

Western Heights used a strong second-half comeback in the previous meeting before prevailing 52-49 in overtime at Jenks Simmons Field House.

But Haydon’s troops were strong from the opening tip to the final buzzer this time and never trailed.

The Indians, which led by eight points at halftime, went on a 14-3 run to start the second half and were never threatened from that point on.

Glenn Wedman started the third quarter with a basket, while both Taylor Wedman and Richey added 3-pointers.
