Calumet cagers roll Corn Bible

CALUMET — Calumet High School’s girls basketball team extended its winning streak to six games last week with a victory over Corn Bible Academy.

The win improved 15th-ranked Calumet to 12-4 on the year.
Calumet led 9-2 after one quarter, but scored 23 in the second stanza to give them a 32-17 lead at half. The Chieftains squad maintained a comfortable lead in the third and led 45-24 by period’s end.

The Crusaders were no match for the Chieftains, who went on a 19-4 run in the fourth period to secure the 64-28 victory.

The Chieftains balanced scoring attack was led by Lindsey Weldon, who hit five 3-pointers for 15 points. Mariel Miles followed with 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Jordan Tech hit three shots from behind the arc and finished with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Meghan Renbarger added nine points as well as seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Emily Eaton had seven points and three rebounds.

Hannah Weldon was held to a rare single-digit output, scoring six points to go along with her two assists and two steals. Megan Snyder, in her first start of the season, had two points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Brittney Laub had a pair of points and rebounds, while Mariah Miles had two rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals.

“Tonight really showed how many weapons we have,” Calumet coach Dewayne Bradley said.
