Hospital may open minor care clinicBy Daniel Lapham/Staff Writer El Reno area residents who depend on the emergency room at Parkview Hospital for after-hours and non-life-threatening care could soon have another option. The Parkview Hospital board of trustees approved a recommendation from hospital staff on Tuesday to continue with plans to open a Minor Care Center in May after construction is completed on the hospital’s new Outpatient Specialty Clinic (OSC). Doug Danker, director of nursing, told the board he could be ready to open the new Minor Care Center in May and would staff it with nurse practitioners. “Our five-bed ER is currently staffed with PAs or nurse practitioners that are backed by physicians,” he said. “The outpatient facility could be staffed with either PAs or nurse practitioners.” Trustee Rosemary Klepper said she thinks the minor care facility would be better suited for nurse practitioners, which would allow for the PAs and physicians to stay in the ER. The report presented by Danker showed the peak hours of ER use as 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The proposed Minor Care Center would operate in the OSC. Due to scheduling, the Minor Care Center would start out operating from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. |

Minor Care Clinic Won't Help Bad Manners
My 3 year old grandaughter has had ear infection problems since birth. She finally had tubes inserted a couple of years ago.
Last week she was kind of ill. (Like everyone else-at first, coughing, etc.) Then my dughter noticed her temp going up & it spiked at 103. She rushed her to the Parkview ER-like I think any mother would. Of course the fever was her main concern at the moment but she mentioned to the tech-or whatever he was-that did the intake eval on her, the fact that her daughter had tubes in her ears & that maybe they had come out-they told her they could when they inserted them.
This brought back a hiss from the man. who told her, "Well, we can't do anything about that now anyway." He snatched a sippee cup from my grand daughters hands and never even spoke to her. When the Doctor came in, it didn't get any better. He didn't even acknowledge my daughter, he spoke to the little guy with a bad attitude & asked him what was going on. The man told him, "She thinks the tube came out of her left ear-(it was the right one, he asked her 3 different times.) And let alone, the reason she was there was to address the fever & make sure the child didn't have something threatening going on. They never told my daughter if the tube was indeed the problem, just rattled off some impressive 3 block long words that she was a medical degree short of understanding-totally intimidated her and made her feel like an idiot. She was afraid to even ASK these people for clarification and they offered none. The one thing the Doc said to her was, "Stop smoking around her." She doesn't. He didn't ask, he assumed.
I told her next time I would make the drive to Integris in Yukon. I saw night & day difference myself back when my dad was alive & in failing health. He was treated very well there & they went out of their way to ask if we had any questions, concerns, were clear on his meds, etc. Nobody seemed "put out" that he was there.
With the cost of health "care" being the racket it has become we certainly should not have to be treated like 2nd rate nimrods to seek care for any family member! Let alone put up with someone who decides what they think we are there for and are just blatantly rude. There are some fabulous doctors who still actually CARE, but most could come down to the human level & at least speak to the parent. Most young mothers get intimidated pretty easily, afraid they're doing something wrong-folks like these are big contributors to that feeling. Is this acceptable because there isn't a line charge for "Treating patient with dignity?" Priceless...
Parkview hospital could take a note here in Human Relations. When you take your DOG to the vet, he will speak to YOU & probably the DOG too!!! What are we doing people? Showing compassion will get you far. Rudeness will catch up with you. Maybe even get you in the news.
Shame on both of these men.

you make it very difficult to log in to read your paper. When I am away from home, I would like to see what has happened over the period of weeks Ive been away.I think this is not necessary just to read the paper.
