Three El Reno residents are scheduled to be interviewed Thursday by the El Reno City Council in a bid to fill the Ward 1 Council seat. The interviews are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be televised on the City’s Public Access Channel.

The seat is being vacated by Vice Mayor Julie Rozsypal following the May 6 Council meeting.

The open Council seat was posted and opened for applications for two weeks, following Rozsypal’s announcement that she must step down for personal reasons. Rozsypal’s remaining term will end on Nov. 11.

Applications were submitted by Dr. Kent E. Carder, 583 S. Williams; Jerry Robertson, 1016 E. Cooney; and Jerry Nelson, 315 E. Wade St.

Applicants will be asked to answer a series of identical questions. The interview process was implemented at the April 1 Council meeting. Mayor Matt White said the Council and the public need every opportunity to know who the new Council member is and how they feel they would add to the city’s current momentum. In the past, if a Council seat was left vacant before a term was up, a person was nominated by the Council and then appointed.
