The Uptown Business and Professional Women’s Club is hosting its annual joint meeting on Friday beginning at noon at First Christian Church, 400 S. Barker. The joint meeting is hosted each year alternately by the Uptown Business and Professional Women’s Club and the El Reno Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Guest speaker will be Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who will discuss “Women in Oklahoma Politics and the Future.”

Lunch will be catered by De’Boise Catering from El Reno. Tickets are $15 each and can be obtained by calling Ann Wiggins at (405) 201-5562.

Heart health and breastfeeding will lead the discussion this month at the Mustang/Yukon La Leche League meeting.

The group will meet at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, 801 W. Vandament in Yukon. Some evidence suggests human milk may provide the infant keys to future heart health as well as better adult cholesterol health and may prevent insulin-dependent diabetes, another factor in heart disease.

Rehearsals are under way for the romantic comedy “Pillow Talk,” conducted by The Stage Door Inc. in Yukon, with Karyn Garcia and Jean-Marie Otto serving as directors.

Evening performances are set for Feb. 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees will be held Feb. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m.

A full-length musical, “Buffalo Soldier,” will be staged Feb. 9 and 10 at Fort Reno's chapel.

Saturday's show starts at 7 p.m. and Sunday's at 2 p.m.

The musical by Janis Contway, author of dozens of plays, musicals., and films, was inspired by the true story of Katherine Holmes, a freed slave, employed as a maid in the commander’s home at Fort Reno during the late nineteenth century.

Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth will address the Canadian County Democrats meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 12.

To accommodate the expected crowd, the meeting has been moved to the largest conference center at Canadian Valley Technology Center, in the west end of the main building. Organizers advise those attending to arrive early because seating is limited.

Gov. Brad Henry appointed Roth last year to replace Republican Denise Bode after she resigned. Before that, he served as an Oklahoma County commissioner for two terms.

Learn more about the Holocaust and how it still relates to the world today at a presentation hosted by Redlands Community College by renowned author Michael Korenblit.

Korenblit will present “How the Holocaust Relates to Issues of Today” at 11 a.m. Tuesday in RCC’s Room MM-125. There is no charge and the public is encouraged to attend.
