Football coach likes progress as Indians set to face Guthrie

It won’t get any easier for El Reno Friday night when the Indians host third-ranked Guthrie at Memorial Stadium.

The Indians, (0-5 overall and 0-2 in District 5A-2) coming off a 41-7 loss at No. 2 Carl Albert last week, figure to have their hands full once again, this time against a Bluejays team that is equally as impressive as Carl Albert.

Guthrie (5-0 overall, 2-0 in District 5A-2) crushed Southeast 69-0 last week. How dominant have the Bluejays been? They have outscored opponents 299-10 and were up 45-0 after just one quarter against Southeast. In fact, they haven’t given up any points since week one when they blasted Shawnee 42-10.

“Guthrie is every bit as good as Carl Albert,” El Reno head coach Dal Nichols said. “I don’t know there is a whole lot of difference between the two.

“They have thumped everybody they have played to this point and look very impressive.”
