El Reno football making big strides to finish seasonBy Byron Beers/Staff Writer After conquering Southeast 36-0 last week on the road and winning its second straight game, El Reno has found new life following seven straight losses to start the season. The Indians, 2-7 overall and 2-4 in District 5A-2, will try to close the season with a bang Friday night against John Marshall at Memorial Stadium and continue the momentum they have gained. John Marshall has yet to record a win, although much like Southeast, the Bears have great athletes. The Bears have been out-scored 439-42 through nine games this year. The closest the Bears have come to tasting victory was a 32-24 overtime loss to Southeast during week eight. The Indians have found new life over the past two weeks, defeating Harrah 16-7 and snapping a winless drought and then easily dominating the Spartans last Thursday. El Reno has been consistent on both sides of the ball in the two victories, something that has plagued the Indians for a better part of the season. “We’ve been pretty consistent the last two or three ball games,” El Reno head coach Dal Nichols said Monday. “We’re not making the same silly mistakes that we made earlier on in the year. |
