Scoring droughts KO girls on courtBy Glen Miller/Staff Writer A pair of multi-minute scoring droughts ended up being the difference between a win and a loss for El Reno High School’s girls basketball team Friday night, which dropped a 38-33 decision to Tulsa Edison in the semifinals of the 2008 MidFirst Bank El Reno Invitational. Edison, ranked ninth in the latest Class 5A poll, held off a late charge by El Reno for the win after being outscored 11-2 in the final period. The Indians are ranked a spot ahead of the Eagles in the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association poll. “Consistent scoring, that has been our Achilles’ heel all year long.” El Reno head coach Eric Carr said. “We don’t score consistently for four quarters and when we are able to do that we are going to be tough. Our defense played tough, especially there in the fourth period, with a lot of intensity. But then we go through those scoring spells.” El Reno trailed 14-11 after one period, getting a basket and two free throws by Britney Nuzum. Tana Ramsey added a 3-pointer along with a basket each from Angelique Johnson and Kristin Horse. The Indians then cut that deficit to 16-14 on two free throws by Johnson with 5:48 left in the half. |
