AFL rookie kicker and El Reno product helps San Jose to Arena Bowl XXI titleBy Byron Beers/Staff Writer It was a season to remember, in more ways than one, for A.J. Haglund. And Haglund hasn’t even been able to soak in all that’s happened yet. The former El Reno standout football player is coming off a championship season with the San Jose SaberCats in the Arena Football League. San Jose upended Columbus 55-33 in Arena Bowl XXI on July 29 at New Orleans Arena. Haglund was a big part of the SaberCats’ 16-3 record as a rookie kicker. And he showed his value by leading the league in total points with 158. He connected on 10-of-18 of his field goal attempts and converted on 128 of his 138 PAT tries. “It means a lot to me,” Haglund said. “I was lucky enough my first year to go to a great team and win a championship. |
