6 p.m. Friday: Lagniappe (YFS fund-raising dinner)

Feb 9 2007 - 6:00pm

Lagniappe will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Festivities at the Old Post Office in El Reno. This is a fund-raiser for Youth and Family Services.

The event, which includes a silent auction, will provide “a little something extra,” a loose English translation for the French word “Lagniappe.”

The all-you-can-eat dinner also includes classic favorites such as blackened chicken, shrimp boil, gumbo, red beans and rice, a giant salad bar and a dessert topper of bread pudding with rum lemon sauce. The feast will be provided by chef Clint Eaves of Yukon. It’s family friendly and the dress is casual, Blose said.

YFS is in the process of building a new youth shelter and administrative offices on the campus of the Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center, between El Reno and Yukon. YFS serves Canadian, Blaine and Kingfisher counties with counseling, first-offender programs and an emergency youth shelter.

To date, about $400,000 is needed to meet the agency’s goal to complete construction of the new center, Blose said. Through grants and donations, YFS has raised more than $6.5 million to build the center.

Reservations for the dinner can be made by calling 262-6555. If you cannot attend but would like to contribute, you may either donate an item for the silent auction or make a cash donation.
