Rev. Dr. Tom W. Boyd, Oklahoma University Professor Emeritus, will deliver the sermon “The Awakening” at El Reno First Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Services begin at 10:45 a.m. at the church located at 221 S. Barker. Boyd’s sermon is based on Scripture readings in the books of Isaiah and Luke. A retired Presbyterian minister in the Indian Nations Presbytery, Boyd’s teaching field is religious ethics. He is the David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at OU. He retired from OU in 1997 after teaching philosophy of religion and ethics there for 28 years. Boyd was coaxed out of retirement in 2002 by President Dan Boren to teach in the university’s religious studies program. Boyd holds four earned degrees, including a Ph.D. in religion from Vanderbilt University in 1973. He continues to be in demand for seminars, workshops and retreats.
