The 2007 Mary K. Ashbrook Dan Taylor Memorial Kids Fishing Derby will be held Saturday at Lake El Reno. The annual event has drawn over 500 youth anglers, under the age of 15, competing in five different age groups. A free rod and reel combination will be given away to the first 600 youths to sign up for the event. Parents must accompany children under the age of 8. There is no adult fishing allowed and children will be limited to two poles for the competition. All fish must be pulled out of Lake El Reno during the derby hours, which run from 8 a.m. until noon. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. The 2007 derby is being held in honor of Dan Taylor, a longtime member of the club who died two years ago.
