1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday: El Reno School District’s annual community health and wellness fair

To be held at Roblyer Middle School.

Attractions will include:

  • Fingerprinting for children, as well as photos of youth to allow parents to put information in one place to give police in case of an emergency.
  • American Red Cross officials will use black lights to show children the bacteria on their hands to teach the importance of hand-washing.
  • The Lions Club health screening van will offer hearing checks as well as vision, glaucoma, diabetes, bone density and blood pressure screenings for people of all ages.
  • El Reno firefighters are expected to bring the department’s education trailer.
  • El Reno Carnegie Library workers will sign families up for library cards.
  • Oklahoma Dental Foundation employees will give dental screenings.
  • El Reno’s school nurse and child nutrition workers will offer information on lice treatment and prevention, as well as eating healthy foods. Free and reduced lunch applications will be available.
  • Oklahoma Blood Institute will take donations from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in their mobile clinic van.
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield nurses will give vaccinations to children from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the company’s “caring van.” Parents need to bring their child’s shot records or a note from school officials listing the vaccinations the child still needs.
  • Employees from the Women, Infants and Children food program, Youth and Family Services, Department of Human Services, Head Start, Sooner Success and Gary E. Miller Children’s Justice Center will explain their programs and services.

Other participants include Parkview Hospital, the Oklahoma Parents as Teachers program, OSU Extension Office and the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
