Dog days

A story in Sunday's Tribune talks of the ballooning problems of pitbulls in our community and the possibility that dog fighting is a growing problem. I have never understood how pet owners can care so little for their animals or their neighbors that they can just let them roam across the city. What if they bite or kill a child? How can you justify being such a poor pet owner? It seems reasonable that the only way we are ever going to get people to do the right thing is to make the penalties so stiff that it no longer becomes worth owning the animal. In a related item: a man came in the Tribune office Thursday and voiced his outrage to me at the the condition of the animal shelter and the number of animals that are killed there every year. Both are truly horrible, but residents who show so little regard for their animals in the first place, should shoulder a great amount of the responsibility. What do you think?

Pets

I am a strong believer that if you own a pet you should keep them tied up or in a pen if your pet is outside. I live out in the counrty just north of El Reno and we have dogs running loose here and I will tell you if any of them come around and BITE my grandkids there will be big trouble around. If they inforce stiffer laws for Pets they should have them out of town pets also. We have several dogs that the owners will not tie up and they chase cars all the time , go pottie in other yard and so we have to clean up after them and that is not fair to us AT ALL when we have no outside pets. We have cats and they are all indoor pets and will not be outside at all. They should have the responsibility and control of there pet if they want them. Don't take the change of them biting other children around the neighborhood Please.
