Jet hoopsters soar over Indians in rematchBy Audrey Dodgen/Staff Writre Until Tuesday, the Indians had never dropped a game to Western Heights in El Reno head coach Rodney Haydon’s tenure. El Reno dropped a 10-point loss to the Jets. The Indians were down by 10 at the half, but were able to cut the lead in half in the first two minutes of the third quarter. The second-half rally, though, was not enough to overcome the ineffectual shooting of the first half. After giving up an eight-point lead in the first quarter, the Indians were outscored by the Jets by only two points for the duration of the game. “Last week against Chickasha, we played two good quarters and two not-so-good ones. Tonight, we played three good quarters. We still need to find a way to play four good quarters in a game,” Haydon said. The Indians were led by Corey Standerfer, who had 20 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Will Stiles, Glenn Wedman and Jordan Webb each had five points in the matchup. Ben Mauldin rounded out the scorers with two points. The team committed 12 turn-overs, down from 17 in its loss to Chickasha last week. “Our goal was no more than 10,” Haydon said. “We had nine in the first half, and I told them at halftime that they only had one more, so we were only over our goal by two.” |
