Junior varsity and varsityboys pick up wins over Chicks in home finaleBy Audrey Dodgen/Staff Writer Tim Ray’s El Reno High School junior varsity team earned a 44-40 win over the Chickasha Fightin’ Chicks Friday. Ryan Hughey and Fayzon Richey led the team in scoring with eight points apiece. Jordan Webb picked up seven points in the contest and Ben Mauldin and Thad Palmer each had six. “We really spread the scoring around, and that’s good for us,” coach Tim Ray said. “Our focus was to just come out and play hard. We didn’t have a specific plan.” Ray was particularly pleased with the play of freshman Thad Palmer. “Thad had a huge tip in the last two minutes. He took a shot he shouldn’t have, but he got fouled and then he just hit two clutch free throws. He has that spark you like to see in your freshmen,” Ray said. “We have a lot of role players on this team, and it’s nice to see guys start to step out of that.” El Reno 49, Chickasha 44 The EHS varsity boys’ basketball squad picked up a 49-44 win over Chickasha Friday, making their record 9-11. “We have a chance to be 11-11 when we get to Guthrie in regionals,” head coach Rodney Haydon said. “Our seniors — Corey and Todd — won this game on senior night.” Senior Corey Standerfer came away with a night of 75 percent accuracy from the field. He hit eight of 12 shots, and picked up 22 points. He was one rebound shy of a double-double, with nine. Todd Palmer did most of his work from the free throw line, where he shot 70 percent. Palmer came away with nine points, hitting six of eight free trhrows in the final period. |
