7 p.m. March 11: "Sicko" showing

Mar 11 2008 - 7:00pm

Canadian County resident Reggie Cervantes will host a showing of Michael Moore’s documentary “Sicko” during the Canadian County Democrats meeting March 11. The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Canadian Valley Technology Center.

Cervantes is a former first responder who has been battling health problems since working at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks. She appears in the film, which looks at the American health-care system and how it compares to that of other countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba. It earned the second-highest revenues for a documentary during its opening week last summer, second only to Moore’s earlier work, “Fahrenheit 9/11.” It has since gained an Academy Award nomination.

Cervantes will auction a copy of the DVD with her autograph to help raise money for county Democrats.

There is no admission charge, and seating is available on a first-come, first- served basis.
