May 18: Rolling Thunder comes through El Reno

May 18 2008 - 11:58am

The Thunder is scheduled to roll through El Reno on Sunday as hundreds of motorcyclists from across the nation enter Oklahoma on their trek to Washington, D.C., to honor America’s fallen soldiers.

El Reno’s Sunset Chapter of A Brotherhood Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) has partnered with Rolling Thunder Across America: Operation Carry the Flame, to host a rally in honor of America’s veterans.

The festivities will begin with registration at 8 a.m. at VFW Post 382 on state Highway 66. Riders are encouraged to register with their insurance verification and “M” endorsed driver’s license. Riders will leave at 10 a.m. to meet the Carry the Flame riders in Clinton and escort them into El Reno. The riders are all due to arrive in El Reno at 12:30 for lunch. Following lunch, entertainment and the official torch-lighting ceremony will cap the day.

All veterans, current military and Blue Star and Gold Star families are invited to come out and be recognized as special guests.
