EHS girls end season with quad-overtime lossBy Audrey Dodgen/Staff Writer El Reno High School’s girls basketball team saw its state tournament hopes slip away in the final seconds of a fourth overtime period in Thursday’s 48-46 loss to the Ada Cougars. Senior Jaclyn Rhoades opened the game with an early two points, but the Indians failed to score during the rest of the first period, giving Ada a 6-2 lead at the first buzzer. Junior Kynzi Bollinger hit a trey two minutes into the second quarter to make the score 8-5, and Victoria Farmer hit the first of two threes to tie the score. After a quick possession by Ada, Farmer hit her second three to give the Indians an 11-10 lead. El Reno slowly built on that momentum and took a 19-14 advantage into the half. In the fourth quarter, the Indians gave up four quick points, making the score 28-26. With just more than three minutes left to play, Ada picked up a steal and hit a 3-point shot, narrowing the gap to one point. The Cougars managed another three with seven seconds on the clock, taking a two-point lead. Rhoades opened the first overtime with two points. Ada responded with 2:42 on the clock and the period quickly became a defensive struggle. |
