Indians baseball takes 11-6 win

Joe Halley earned a save with three innings of work Tuesday in the Indians victory over McLoud.

Halley gave up one hit and one walk while striking out five batters in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

In the first inning of Tuesday’s game in McLoud, junior Chandon Vieweg stepped to the plate with one out and sent the ball sailing over the left field wall. Two batters later, senior Clint Maune blasted a home run over the right field wall.

“I didn’t think that hit was going to go over. I kept thinking I should run faster,” Maune said.

The Indians held their comfortable early lead until the second inning when three defensive errors allowed five runs by the Redskins, making the score 5-4.

The Indians trailed 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning.

Two El Reno batters hit doubles in the inning to give the Indians the edge.

With the score tied at six, Caleb Koos launched a double which scored two, making the score 8-6.

Randy Morrison also hit a two-run double in the inning, giving El Reno its final two runs.
“We’re all pretty happy right now,” Maune said.

“In that seventh inning, we all got up and started hollering. We were definitely excited.”
Lorenzo Robinson started the game on the mound for the Indians.

He pitched four innings, earned three strikeouts and gave up all six of McLoud’s runs. Robinson also earned one RBI at the plate.

Four Indians — Scott Gholston, Vieweg, Morrison and Koos — each had two RBIs.

Maune and Dylan Hughey each added one RBI.

The Indians will play Anadarko at 2 p.m. Thursday at home, and will travel to Mustang Friday to play the Broncos. They will also play in the McGuinness Festival Friday and Saturday.
