Seven Indians earn basketball all-conference nodsBy Audrey Dodgen/Staff Writer Seven El Reno basketball players were honored with a place on the Suburban Conference all-conference team. Seniors Corey Standerfer and Jaclyn Rhoades were both named to the all-conference first team. Seniors Todd Palmer and Aubrey Blackwolf both earned honorable mention. Jared Krittenbrink and Glenn Wedman also picked up honorable mention nods. Freshman Britney Nuzum was named Newcomer of the Year in the conference. Standerfer led his team in total field goals with 114, and produced a field goal percentage of 41.8 percent. Standerfer hit 34 3-point shots and picked up a total of 330 points on the season, including 68 free throws. Standerfer also secured 159 rebounds. He blocked 53 shots and picked up 22 steals. Palmer finished with 142 points and picked up 81 rebounds. Krittenbrink shot 80 percent from the free throw line, the team’s highest percentage. He finished the season with 134 points. Wedman hit 12-of-16 free throws on the season, for a second-best 75 percent from the stripe. The Indians finished their season 9-14, and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Rhoades and Blackwolf led their team through three games of postseason play, finally losing by two points to the Ada Cougars in the area tournament. During the season, the team beat fourth-ranked Harrah and lost by two in an overtime game to top-ranked Carl Albert in the regional tournament. Rhoades picked up a team-leading 17 points in the final game, echoing a pattern the Indians followed through much of the season. Head coach Eric Carr has said when Rhoades struggles to score, the entire offense struggles. Blackwolf was primarily known for her outside play, particularly from behind the arc, but worked to improve her inside game as the season progressed, she said. Carr credited Blackwolf with being the team’s most consistent scorer through the first half of the season. Nuzum struggled to find her place early, but gained confidence through the season, Carr said. Nuzum led the team in scoring in its final regular season game. |
