ER golfers card second placeBy Glen Miller/Sports Editor CHOCTAW — Despite a few pitfalls over the closing nine holes Thursday, El Reno High School’s girls golf team placed second in the Harrah Invitational played on Choctaw Creek Golf Course. El Reno fired a 366 team score, 16 shots off the winning pace set by Seminole. “I’m very pleased with these scores today,” El Reno head coach Lanae Goucher said. “We are getting back to where we need to be. Our short game was better today and the scores re-flected it. But we have to continue to practice hard.” Leilani Gradle took fourth place in the medalist race with nines of 41-41 for an 82. Classmate Madison Haley was fifth overall with nines of 40-43 for an 83. Haley had three triple bogies on the closing nine holes. Andrea Dyer rallied from a slump on the opening nine to card a 46 on the final nine holes. The junior got off to a quick start on the day, but struggled to a 52 – ending out of the top 10 with a 98. Alisha Preno carded a 102 (49-52), followed by Vicotria Farmer’s 103 (52-51) and Ashlee Brittain’s 105 (52-53). The Indians were coming off a second place finish a day earlier at Kingfisher, carding a team score of 374 – 11 shots behind the host school’s winning total. Haley had the low score for El Reno with an 83 (40-43), followed by Gradle’s 85 (41-44). Brittain carded a 101 (47-54), while Dyer had a 105 (52-53) and Preno a 109 (52-57). “Overall we struggled a bit with our short game,” Goucher said. “If we can lower our scores as a team, we will be tough to beat.” Junior High Tourney Ginger Hughart and Jordan Jensen led El Reno with duplicate 58s, while Taylor James had a 60. Chyna Bohn and Kelsey Auten carded 61s and Sara Guthrie had a 63. |
