Cougars baseball team wins Region II title in Enid

The Redlands Community College baseball team went on an undefeated run through the Region II tournament, securing a place in the district tournament in Hesston, Kan., this weekend.

The team is 34-21 and ranked 21st in the nation.
They will face top-ranked Mesa Community College and Hesston Communty College.

The Cougars secured their championship with a 4-2 win over Murray State Sunday.

Justin Pennell led the team in batting with a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs on a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Pitcher Chase Baran threw all nine innings for Redlands, striking out 10 batters and giving up a total of six hits.
He gave up his first run in the eighth inning and another on a solo home run in the ninth.

The Cougars opened the tournament with a five-inning 10-0 run rule of Northern Oklahoma College.

Brett Fleming threw all five innings and fanned two batters while walking one.

The Cougars tallied 12 hits with only one strikeout in their turn at the plate.

They followed their successful outing against NOC with an 18-5 run rule victory over Western.

Rance Plunkett gave up six hits and five walks in the outing and struck out three batters. The Cougars totaled 13 hits on the day.
