Jason Looper’s first outing as El Reno’s head baseball coach ended in two losses in a doubleheader with Chickasha.

The Indians lost the first game 7-5 after holding a 5-1 lead.

Chandon Vieweg opened on the mound for the Indians, pitching five innings and giving up four runs.

The Chicks scored one run in the first inning, which was answered by the Tribe.

The Indians scored again in the fourth inning, pushing four runs across the plate.

Chickasha rallied in the fifth inning with three runs.

“Chandon threw really well. He sort of ran out of gas there at the end, but he had two or three pitches really working,” Looper said.

After earning five strikeouts and scattering seven hits and walking six batters, Vieweg was relieved by Trendon Johnson, who pitched one-third of the sixth inning and gave up three runs.

Jared Krittenbrink finished the game for the Indians, holding Chickasha scoreless for one and a third innings, and walking only one batter.

Vieweg also led the team in offense, hitting 2-for-4 on the night with two singles and two RBIs.

Caleb Koos was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and scored two runs.

Jay Weekley was also 1-for-3 and had two RBIs.

“I feel good about the way we played in the first game. We hadn’t worked out as a team in about four days, but we came out and swung our bats and hit the ball well. We just ran out of gas at the end,” Looper said.

In the second game, the Chicks took a commanding lead early in the game and held on for a 15-4 run rule victory in five innings.

Chickasha scored three runs in the first inning off Johnson.

“He (Johnson) had a rough first inning,” Looper said.
