Indians overrun by Wolves in CA baseball tourneyBy Audrey Dodgen/Staff Writer The El Reno High School baseball team lost their first game in the Carl Albert tournament Friday to the Shawnee Wolves. The 9-1 five-inning run rule came on the heels of a Thursday rainout, which will be played at 10 a.m. today. Jared Krittenbrink started on the mound for the Indians. He pitched four complete innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. Krittenbrink walked two batters and earned no strikeouts. The game remained scoreless through one-and-a-half, when Shawnee mustered one run in the bottom of the second. The Wolves built their lead with four runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth. El Reno’s only run of the night came in the top of the fifth inning. Lawrence Rhoades led off the inning, and flew out to left field. Nick Brown took first when he was hit by a pitch, followed by Seth Herren, who was also struck by a pitch. Brent Wiedemann struck out, bringing up Caleb Koos, who singled to score Brown. Koos was put out by a fielder’s choice in Chandon Vieweg’s at bat to end the inning. Rhoades entered the game at pitcher in the bottom of the fifth inning, and gave up three runs on one hit and three walks. Rhoades also struck out one batter. The Indians collected four hits and gave up a total of 10 hits to the Wolves. Vieweg led the team in batting with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. He landed two singles and stole two bases on the night. Koos was 1-for-3 on the night with one single for an RBI and Rhoades was 1-for-3 with a single. Defensively, Rhoades threw out one runner attempting to steal second and the Tribe turned one double play. The Indians also committed two errors in the field. The Indians will host Bethany Monday before traveling to Guthrie Tuesday. Both games will be double headers. |
