Derek Thompson ended his run at the cadet national tournament with a sixth place finish, falling 6-0, 4-1 to fifth-place finisher Zac Bennet of Pennsylvania in the final match.
Thompson was 6-1 in pool bouts at 171 pounds, earning technical falls in the second and third rounds.
His only loss in the pool was in the seventh round, a 3-1, 3-0 decision to Tito Pica of California.
Chris Hacker’s pool bouts earned him a chance to challenge for the fifth-place finish in junior division at 145 pounds.
Hacker was 7-1 in his pool, and earned five falls and one technical fall.
His quickest pin came in 18 seconds, over Jacob Johnson of Minnesota.
His five pins were second only to TJ Wunnicke of Wisconsin, who earned six. Hacker’s falls took a total of 3:47 to earn, while Wunnicke took 8:15 to take his six.
Adam Delong and Josh Grube were both 2-2 in their freestyle bouts, Delong at 125 and Grube at 112.
At 105 pounds, Austin Mogg was 3-2.
