Obituaries for Jan. 23, 2008Elledge, Silas Mr. Elledge died Tuesday at the Clinton Veterans Center. Guile, Joy Oyler (paid) She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Gary M. Guile of El Reno; son, Mike Wright and wife, Mary of Kansas; daughter, Susan Simpson and husband, Sean of Edmond; daughter, Jamie Pratt and husband, James of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Garrett, Jacob, Mikayla, Sydney, Adison and Alayna; stepson, Tackle Guile and wife, Pam of Texas; stepdaughter, Christy Guile of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter, Karie Guile of Enid; step-grandchildren, Riley, Kenneth, Dylan and Dakota; a brother, Mac Oyler and fiancé, Chern of Oklahoma City; niece, Julie Blose and husband, Don of Yukon; and nephew, Jay Oyler of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Opal Oyler, and sister-in-law, Yvonne Oyler. She graduated from El Reno High School and El Reno Junior College and with bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Central State College. She taught kindergarten through eighth grade for 34 years in and around El Reno as Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Guile. She enjoyed reading, antiquing, gardening, traveling and people. She was a member of Temple B’nai Israel and Emanuel Synagogue in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be at Mercer Adams Funeral Service in Bethany on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. Meyer, Mervil J. 'Merv' (paid) He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he moved to El Reno in 1945. Merv owned and operated the El Reno Credit Bureau for 47 years. He also served as the El Reno city treasurer for over 40 years. Merv twice served as president of the Association of Credit Bureaus of Oklahoma. He was past president of the El Reno Noon Lions Club and the El Reno J.C.s. Merv married his second wife, Jimmie Kathryn Shoemaker, on June 12, 1999, in El Reno. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pat Meyer; a daughter, Melodie Mitchell; and a brother, Dayton Meyer. Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Kathryn Meyer of the home; daughter, Marilyn Corn and husband, Don of El Reno; son, Lindell Meyer and wife, Beatriz of Oklahoma City; stepdaughters, Kathy Sturgeon and husband, Lee of Sunriver, Ore., and Sherri Nelson and husband, Dave of Oakley, Kan.; stepson, Terry Shoemaker of Schaumburg, Ill.; grandchildren, Jeff Corn and wife, Jana of Elk City, Bradley Corn of El Reno, Stephanie Hamilton and husband, Bobby of Mustang, Ashley Meyer of Oklahoma City, Sandie White of Oklahoma City, Jeff Sturgeon and Jill Lucarelli, both of Seattle, Wash., Hope, Charlie and Katie Shoemaker of Derwood, Md., and Tammy, Debbie and Michael Nelson of Oakley, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Chandler and Chisolm Corn of Hinton, Mason and Braden Hamilton of Mustang, Michael Smithwick and Cassie White, both of Oklahoma City, Matthew and John Lucarelli of Seattle, Wash., and Callie Shoemaker of Derwood, Md. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at First Christian Church in El Reno. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery with military honors. Rogers, Richard VonTungeln, Eula 'Flo' (paid) Mrs. VonTungeln died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, in Bellevue Nursing Home in Oklahoma City. She was born March 7, 1927, in Olney, Texas. Flo came to Oklahoma as a small child. She was a graduate of El Reno High School and had worked for Conrad Marr as a sales associate and was a former accountant for the Calumet Y. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Huston and Thelma (Boswell) Greenwood; two daughters, Marcy and Julie VonTungeln; sister, Gwen Oliver; brother, Huston Greenwood Jr.; and half brother, Jack Singer. Survivors include her husband, Edward VonTungeln Jr. of the home; son, Kurt VonTungeln of Cedar Lake; daughters, Tina Lowder and husband, Jim of Fayetteville, Ark., and Jill Smith and husband, Joe of Dallas, Texas; sister, Annette Haws of Sherman, Texas; four grandchildren, Dr. Gary Lowder, Karen Lowder-Higdon, PV2 Jeremy Smith and Axel VonTungeln; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Lowder, Garrison Lowder, Gracie Higdon and Kaylee Higdon; numerous other relatives and friends. Ward, Carrie Mrs. Ward died Saturday in Bethesda, Md. She was born May 5, 1932, in Verden. She attended school in Anadarko and Booker T. Washington in El Reno. She graduated from El Reno High School and attended a semester of college in Tennessee. She became the first black woman to join the Army, serving four years. She was a registered nurse at Walter Reed Hospital and retired from the National Institution of Health in Bethesda. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She is survived by sisters, Pearl Allen and Margaret White, and brothers, John Allen, Warner Allen and Leo Allen, all of El Reno. West, Lisa Mrs. West died Saturday at Integris Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1966, in Elkhart, Kan. She was a graduate of White Deer High School in White Deer, Texas, and Redlands Community College. She was a registered nurse. She is survived by husband, Terry West of the home; daughters, Amy West of the home and Mary West of El Reno; parents, Dan and Faye Bulla of Healdton; and a sister, Danna Offield of El Reno. |
