Obituaries for May 7, 2008Barton, Betty Batchelor, Jimmy Mr. Batchelor died May 1 in Crawford. He was born May 26, 1960, in Cheyenne. The family moved to El Reno in 1963, and he attended Rose Witcher Elementary. He moved to Roll in 2004. He is survived by his mother, Margie Lembke of Crawford; a brother, Jeff Batchelor of Crawford; sisters, Joi Bachiochi of Sweetwater, Nancy Lembke of El Reno, Bea Cottington of Polson, Mont., and Deanna Thompson of Raydon. Chambers, George L. 'Tex' Mr. Chambers died Friday at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Tenn. He was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Oklahoma City. A former resident of Belvidere, N.J., he had resided in McMinn County, Tenn., since 2007. He was a veteran serving in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion post in Belvidere and was past master of Belvidere Masonic Lodge. He was a well-known dog trainer whose dog, Mr. Troubles, played “Blitz” in the movie “Trail Blazers,” played checkers with Red Skelton on television, played the part of “Nameless” in the movie “Come, Fill the Cup” with James Cagney and was a guest of television star Merv Griffin on the television show, “Play Your Hunch.” He is survived by sons, Charles Chambers of Easton, Pa., Frank Chambers of Kunkletown, Pa., and George Chambers Jr. of Dalhart, Texas; daughters, Georgia Riddle of Nutley, N.J., Debora Elrod of Delano, Tenn., and Linda Mullett of Chardon, Ohio; several grandchildren, grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Kabriel, Marcia She is survived by three children and two brothers, Jack and Gene Slaughter. Nelson, Delmar Glen (paid) Mr. Nelson went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 3, 2008. Bill was born in Gould, Okla., on Feb. 21, 1925, to Simi and Newt Nelson. He grew up on the family farm where he lost his father at age 10 and his mother at age 12. He lived with his grandparents in Hollis. They passed while he was in high school. He then lived with his eldest brother, Denzil and wife, Pauline, until he graduated high school. He was the youngest of six children. Bill was a veteran serving in Japan in World War II. He earned his BS and MS degrees in agriculture economics and marketing from Oklahoma State University and Colorado State, respectively. He met Aillene Clovis while working as Canadian County agricultural extension agent in El Reno. After marriage he served as a staff member at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. They then moved to Amarillo in 1958 where Bill was founder and head of Texas Grain Sorgum Association. He then founded Texas Wheat Producers Association and Board. He was devoted to helping the farmers through education, production and marketing aspects. He received such honors as “Man of the Year” in agriculture and “Visionary Award for Outstanding Leadership.” Texas A&M dedicated a greenhouse in his honor in 2003. Bill traveled to 65 countries and five continents meeting with dignitaries and ambassadors, educating them on trade relations, transport issues, duties and tariffs as well as U.S. and foreign trade policies. D.G. “Bill” Nelson retired at the age of 73 in 1997. He continued council to Texas wheat for two more years. Bill and Aillene were active in the First Baptist Church where they were members. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he was a board member of the agricultural and business committees. They were also members of the International Club. Bill witnessed his parents’ hardships of wheat farming through the Dust Bowl and Depression days. He vowed to the Lord, given the ability, he would help farmers worldwide to better help themselves and their families through research and education. He was a true servant of the Lord. He is survived by a daughter, Tanya, and son-in-law, Davis Schubert of Plano, and grandchildren, Nelson, Allison and Courtney. She was born May 6, 1916, in Bridgeport and graduated from Bridgeport High School. She lived in the Geary community all of her life. She was a member of Geary First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Homer of the home; three children, Gwen Crabb of Pittsburg, Texas, Grady Sells of Richardson, Texas, and Noel Sells of Rutledge, Ga.; sisters, Elnora Shanklin of Torrence, Calif., and Erma Mapes of Hinton; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Wolking, Helen L. Mrs. Wolking died May 2, 2008, at her home in El Reno. She was born April 22, 1924, in El Reno, the daughter of George A. and Rose (Elmenhorst) Menz. She was a lifelong resident of El Reno and a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She married John H. “Jack” Wolking in 1946. Jack survives her in death. She is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law and five grandchildren, John L. and Nancy Wolking of El Reno and their sons, Scott and Greg, and Randy and Lorie Wolking of Keller, Texas, and their children, David, Stephen and Nicole; and a brother, Frank Menz of Union City. |
