McKay, Anna Laura Buck (paid)
Anna Laura Buck McKay left this life on May 21, 2007, at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 28 days. Anna was born March 24, 1914, to Amos Kile and Annie Kirby Buck in Carney. Her parents had eight other children — Ruby Beatrice, Virble Kile, Lena Irene, Basil Homer, Reva Christine, Jay Dillon and Jesse Melvin. John Wesley is her youngest and only surviving sibling.

Anna and her family moved from Carney to Geary by horse and wagon in 1918 so her father, Amos, could help her Grandmother Buck work the family farm west of Geary. She attended the Richland School. Later the family moved to town where she attended Geary Public Schools and where she met Cecil McKay. Anna married Cecil Fred McKay on Nov. 1, 1930. She was a devoted wife to Cecil and a devoted mother to seven children, six of whom survive her — three daughters, Rosalyn Sue Arranz of San Marcos, Texas, Peggy Annette and husband, Jim Pattillo of Bethany and Lorita Kathryn and husband, Jesse Ellis of Cypress, Calif.; four sons, Cecil Melvin and wife, Jane McKay of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, Kenneth Wayne and wife, JoAnn McKay of Geary, and Stanley Jonathan and wife, Lynn McKay of Oklahoma City.

Bobby Lee McKay passed away in 1998.

Those also celebrating her life are 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a multitude of other relatives and friends.
Cecil’s job with the Rock Island Railroad took him to many towns around Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. In 1949 the family moved back to Geary permanently. In 1972, after Cecil’s death, Anna moved to El Reno but ill health required her to return to Geary to live with Ken and Jodi. Until recently, she was in their loving care. She was a resident of Grace Living Center in El Reno at the time of her death.

Anna was blessed with many talents. First and foremost would be her cooking. She could make a banquet with just a few meager items or leftovers. She was also a superb seamstress as her daughter, Peggy, can attest. She made hundreds of outfits for Peggy throughout her life. She was a very accomplished quilter, too. She hand-pieced and quilted a quilt for each child, grandchild and great-grandchild. They have won many prizes at the Geary Tri-County Fair. She was the Daily Oklahoman’s Golden Thimble Award winner for January 1998. In 1978 Anna took art lessons with daughter, Kathy, as they awaited the birth of granddaughter, Courtney. Anna painted numerous pictures and was quite gifted. She was a much-loved Sunday school teacher at First Mennonite Church in Geary.

She will leave a legacy of love and devotion that her family and friends will remember always.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil McKay; her son, Bobby Lee McKay; one grandson, Timothy Kile Ellis; her parents, Amos Kile and Annie Kirby Buck; brothers, Virble, Basil, Jay and Jesse; and sisters, Ruby, Lena and Reva.

Funeral services will be held at Geary First Christian Church on Friday, May 25, 2007, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Ranney officiating. Burial will be in the Geary Cemetery. Services are under direction of Turner Funeral Home of Geary.
