Graveside services with military honors for Woodford G. Jones of El Reno were held Saturday, Sept. 2 in the El Reno Cemetery with Rev. Rod Young, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Services were under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones died Aug. 29, 2006, at his home. He was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Calumet to his parents, Todd Woodford and Georgia Pearl (King) Jones. He grew up in the Calumet area and attended school in Calumet. He moved with his family to El Reno in 1930 and attended school in El Reno, graduating from El Reno High School. Woodford served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for many years, retiring as a switchman. He was a life member of VFW Post 382 and American Legion Post 34. He was also a member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church. Woodford went by the nicknames of Duck and Woody.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth Mae (Black) Jones, and a sister, Lula Mae Thompson.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Johnson and husband, Donald of Moore; sons, Johnny Richard Jones and wife, Brenda of Noble and Fred Woodford Jones and wife, Shirley of Wagoner; a grandson, David Woodford Jones and wife, Debbie of Moore; a great-grandson, Noah David Jones of Moore; a sister, Leota Stout and husband, Jim of Anderson, Mo.; and brothers, Archie L. Jones and wife, Mary Ellen, and John E. Jones and wife, Dorothy, all of El Reno.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Legion Children’s Home, 1300 Summers Place, Ponca City, Okla. 74604.
