Cougars' ‘D’ topples SNU, Oklahoma BaptistStaunch defense continues to be the calling card of Redlands Community College men’s basketball team after the Cougars held Oklahoma Baptist University’s junior varsity squad to only 10 baskets in a 109-27 road win. Redlands gave up seven baskets from 2-point range and three from the perimeter, while sending the Bison to the free throw line 13 times — which the Bison converted on four. On the flip side, the Cougars offense hit 49-of-66 shots for 74 percent, mostly from inside the arc. Redlands hit 46 baskets from 2-point range, while hitting 3-of-7 from long distance. Carderro Nwojo, Reggie Cook and Albert Fisher each had a trey. Seven of Redlands’ 10 scorers in the game reached double digits, led by Cook and Fisher with 17 points each. Nwoji dropped in 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Eric McKinney hit 6-of-7 shot attempts for 13 points. Chris Rhymes, Charles Bronson and Preston Brown each scored 10 points. Kamarachi Onyirioha and De’Marco Stanfield had six points each and Rod Green had five. Redlands pulled down 54 rebounds, 39 of those in the defensive end of the floor. Bronson led the way with eight boards, while Rhymes grabbed six along with Brown and Onyirioha. The defense logged 14 steals with McKinney leading the way with five. Nwoji and Cook had three steals each and Rhymes added two. Rhymes was the top scorer with 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Cook hit 5-of-9 shots, including a 3-of-6 effort from beyond the arc, to highlight his 14 points. Rodney Alexander made 3-of-4 shots and was 83 percent from the line (5-of-6) for 11 points. Cook missed only two shots en route to his 10 points. Bronson tossed in nine to pace those in single digits, while Nwoji and Brown each added eight points. Brown was the top rebounder with six, with Nwoji, Cooks, Bronson and Green each cornering five. |
