The Redlands Community College women’s basketball team took advantage of 17 second-half turnovers by Mid-America Christian University Thursday night to win its first game at home in 2007 with an 86-57 decision over the Evangels.
The win lifted the Cougars, ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, to 15-1 on the season. The 29-point victory, which included three second-half blocked shots by RCC, was the fifth for Redlands since returning from the holiday break.
Redlands had its hands full with the Evangels for the first 20 minutes, leading 30-26 before three fast break layups and a put-back allowed the Cougars to take a 38-31 lead into intermission. Rudy Crenshaw was one of four players with multi baskets for RCC, ending the first half with six points. Lameka Oakes and LeNece Glossett matched that mark as nine players scored for the Cougars.
Leandra Johnson led all scorers in the half with seven.
Redlands opened the second half with two quick baskets from Demesha Heard and Kim Ford to move the lead into double digits. It remained a 12-point game until the Cougars went on a 14-0 run over a seven-minute period. Heard scored a pair of baskets and two free throws in the break, followed by single buckets from Liz Semien and Eva Duce. Stefanie Cook added two baskets to secure a 63-38 margin.

The Evangels answered with a small 5-0 run, but Redlands countered with a pair of Cook 3-pointers and a pair of fast break layups by Duce to push the margin to 31 points at 84-53.
