School mainstays planning to retireBy Carolyn Cole/Staff Writer Nine top El Reno School District employees announced their retirement last week, with more than 150 years of experience among them. Dwight Miller will retire from the El Reno School District after 36 years wearing many hats, from principal and girls basketball coach to interim superintendent. The El Reno High School graduate started his career in education 39 years ago and has spent all but three years working in his hometown. Starting July 1, Miller said he plans to go to work part time with his sons, Darin and Matt Miller, who own Miller Architects. In his new position, he said he will help them work with superintendents in planning construction projects, putting much of what he has learned in the El Reno School District to build their firm. “After 39 years, I think I will really like being on my own schedule instead of being on somebody else’s,” he said, adding he’s also looking forward to playing more golf, completing projects around his house and traveling. His wife, Pam Miller, El Reno’s special education director, still has a few more years before retirement, he said. Miller returned to El Reno as Hillcrest Elementary principal in 1972 and moved to Etta Dale Junior High as principal two years later, where he formed a girls basketball team. |
