Indians find win column on soccer fieldBy Byron Beers/Staff Writer The El Reno boys soccer team found the win column for just the second time this season Friday against Duncan at Memorial Stadium. The Indians were lifted by a pair of goals in the second half by junior Tyler Hill and senior Will Stiles in the 2-0 victory. It’s the Indians first victory since the season opener at Memorial Stadium, a 5-1 triumph over Guthrie. Hill broke a scoreless tie with his goal at the 12:27 mark of the second half, and Stiles added a security blanket for El Reno with just 19 seconds left on his score. The Indians finished with 13 shots on goal and were led by Gabriel Gonzales who had three. Ryan Hughey, Jake Meyer, Manuel Gonzales, Abel Renteria and Hill each had two shots on goal. Renteria posted the lone assist on the goal by Hill. Duncan had nine shots on goal, but couldn’t get anything past El Reno junior goalkeeper Jonathan Hernandez. It was a reversal in the nightcap as Duncan blanked the Indians 2-0 with one goal each in the first and second half. El Reno couldn’t crack the scoring column, despite 19 shots on goal. Senior midfielder K’Risa Hawkins had seven of the shots on goal to pace the Indians. Katie Shemanske, Britney Nuzum and Crystal Haverfield each finished with two shots on goal. The Demons had 13 shot attempts. El Reno senior goalkeeper Sarah Apple had 11 saves. Both El Reno squads will wrap up season play on Tuesday by hosting Lawton MacArthur at Memorial Stadium on senior night. The girls are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., and the boys will follow at 7:30 p.m. |
