Indian softball crashes Jets during early innings

El Reno wasted no time in recovering from its 7-2 loss to Class 5A second-ranked Carl Albert last week.

The 11th-ranked Indians jumped on Western Heights early and often and bounced back into the win column with a 9-1 victory over the Jets Thursday evening at Joe Riley Stadium.

It took just two innings for the Indians to claim dominance —they scored eight of their nine runs in the first two innings before going into cruise control behind another solid outing from senior pitcher Katie Raines.

It was the same Western Heights team that went toe-to-toe with El Reno just two weeks earlier in the first meeting where the Indians held on for a 2-1 win.

But the Indians, which improved to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in the Suburban Conference, have progressed in a big way since then under third-year head coach Lynetta Keller. Raines, who became eligible to play against Harrah over a week ago, has been dominant as a pitcher, giving Keller a solid 1-2 punch with freshman Chelsea Jones, but has also sparked the entire offense.
