El Reno seniors named to All-Region I softball teamBy Byron Beers/Staff Writer El Reno seniors Katie Raines and Angelique Johnson were both selected to the All-Region I softball team after helping lead the Indians to the Class 5A state championship game. In her one year with El Reno, Raines was prolific in the pitcher’s circle all season long where she posted a 19-8 win-loss record with an 0.82 earned run average. The left-hander and Suburban Conference Newcomer of the Year, tossed six no-hitters and had one perfect game. Raines recorded 151 strikeouts in 170 innings pitches. Opposing hitters batted just .126 off Raines. Johnson was a steady defender at whatever position she played. She was named to the team as an outfielder, but was just as valuable at third base. Offensively, Johnson batted .205 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. “Both of these girls are very deserving,” El Reno head coach Lynetta Keller said. “I’ve had Angelique for three years and she was always working hard and improving. She was a great motivatior for her teammates. “Katie was also very deserving with the numbers she put up. She was a huge reason for all of the success we had this year.” |
