Sales tax revenue continues climbSales tax revenue to Canadian County communities was generally higher than the year before for business conducted in October. Eight cities and towns in the county received October checks in December, Oklahoma Tax Commission records show. Reimbursements for El Reno, Calumet, Mustang, Piedmont and Yukon received increases from the year before for the same reporting period. El Reno’s check was $461,449, up from $464,761 the year before during the same reporting period. Yukon’s was $991,274, up from $969,873, and Mustang’s was $499,560, up from $471,265. Piedmont’s was $72,475, up from $66,113, and Calumet’s was $11,080, up from $9,293. Union City, Okarche and Geary received slight decreases in their reimbursements. Mustang, Piedmont and Calumet collect a 4 percent sales tax, El Reno and Yukon collect 3.75 percent and Okarche, Union City and Geary collect 3 percent. Canadian County collected $293,313, representing an increase from $287,344 over October 2005 business. The county collects a .35 percent sales tax that pays for juvenile services. The state disbursed $98.77 million in sales tax collections, returned to 500 cities and towns that reflected an increase of $3.8 million. All communities in the county collect use taxes, also funneled through the Tax Commission. For October business, El Reno received $26,811, Geary earned $227 and Calumet received $311. Mustang’s was $23,029; Okarche, $2,219; Piedmont, $3,636; Union City, $557; and Yukon, $42,526. |
