In his third straight trip to the Class 4A state tournament, El Reno junior Taylor Wedman managed one win in three matches at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.

Wedman defeated Shawn Hanks of Altus, 6-4/6-1 in the second round to secure his lone match victory.

Wedman was coming off a loss to No. 3 seed Cale Hammond of Tulsa Bishop Kelley (1-6/1-6) in the opening round Friday morning.

“Taylor started out slow, but overcame a little adversity,” said El Reno head coach Mike Booher. “He was becoming a little frustrated and impatient to begin with, but overcame that and played real strong after the third game of the first set against Hanks.

“I was proud of Taylor for being able to do that and he showed a lot of maturity in doing that.”

Wedman advanced to the third round on Saturday morning where he dropped a match to Austin Manger of Carl Albert in straight sets, 1-6/0-6.
