School uniform committee to make recommendation
An ad hoc school uniform study committee will be recommending the El Reno School Board amend the student dress code policy that includes banning pullover “hoodies,” cargo pants and cargo shorts, all fashions currently in style.
The committee and secondary schools administrators will also recommend the policy be amended to require all shirttails to be “neatly tucked inside pants or skirts” and all outerwear removed upon entering the school building. Outerwear includes jacket “hoodies,” coats, jackets, sweaters and windbreakers. Also, no wearing of blankets would be allowed if the school board approves.
The issue is tentatively expected to be on the May 14 school board meeting agenda, said Treva Marquardt, school board clerk.
At the same meeting a recommendation will be made on school uniforms. The study committee is conducting a community-wide telephone survey to determine whether or not it will recommend the board institute a school uniform.
