ER volleyball off to good start

The improvements are easily noticeable with the El Reno volleyball program under second-year head coach Kristen Reeves.

The Indians, who managed three victories all of last season, competed at a high level last weekend at the Cameron tournament in Lawton and then continued to impress through their first two regular season games on Monday and Tuesday.

El Reno defeated Deer Creek in four games Tuesday at Roblyer Middle School, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-13. On Monday, the Indians were swept by Clinton, 11-25, 14-25, 21-25.

“It was a big adjustment for us to play Deer Creek one day after playing Clinton,” Reeves said. “We came out ready to play and were really successful. Our hitting and passing have really improved.”

Senior Whitney Jacobs had six serve aces to lead the team, followed by sophomore Kenzie Ruston’s four. Juniors Erica Halley and Shortea Cooper had two each.

Tori Banks had seven kills and senior Crystal Bell finished with four kills.

“Our passing is so much better than what it has been,” Reeves said. “I tell the girls that it all starts with our passing and that’s where we have really improved.”

Jacobs led in perfect passes with 25, while Halley followed with 24.
