Five EHS wrestlers put on state singlets at USA Wrestling’s Junior National DualsBy Byron Beers/Staff Writer Six El Reno grapplers were competing at the Junior Dual National Championships last week at Oklahoma City University. Ethan Martin and Cody Dauphin both participated for team Oklahoma in the Greco-Roman event, while Chris Hacker, Adam DeLong, Derek Thompson, Cory Dauphin and Cody Dauphin suited up for Oklahoma in the freestyle event. Only Hacker saw action on the first day of pool play in the freestyle event. DeLong and Thompson were both out with injuries. Final results for freestyle competition will be in Wednesday’s issue. In Greco-Roman action, Oklahoma took an early exit in the consolation bracket with a 43-24 setback to Missouri. Martin was the lone El Reno product to participate for Oklahoma in the loss to Missouri. He won his match by forfeit at 112 pounds. In pool play, Oklahoma won two matches – one with a bye and the other coming against North Carolina in the fifth round, 43-19. Martin and Dauphin each had losses in the first two rounds against Indiana and Wisconsin. Against Indiana, Martin dropped a 9-5 decision to Cody Stewart at 112 pounds, while Dauphin lost his decision to Eric Ousley at 215 pounds. In the setback to Wisconsin, Martin fell 9-1 to Carl Deluca, and Dauphin was pinned just 50 seconds into his match with Dallas O’Malley. Dauphin bounced back to defeat Karam Basra 13-4 of California during the third round. Martin lost by technical fall 13-0 to Jarron Ramirez. Martin was shutout 9-0 against Corey Mock of North Carolina in round five, while Dauphin did not wrestle. Against Iowa in round six, Martin was handed a 10-2 loss to George Ivanov. During the final round of pool play against Florida, both Martin and Dauphin had losses. Martin lost by technical fall, 14-0, to Schulyer Swanton. Dauphin suffered a 6-1 setback to Dustin Meloche at 215 pounds. |
